Prizmah is pleased to announce we will be holding another Alternative Tution Model Institute, April 27 - April 29. This 3-day gathering will be open to heads of school, admissions directors, and other business office or development professionals involved with tuition setting and tuition assistance. Participants will learn about best practices in tuition setting and the wide variety of alternative tuition models being embraced by Jewish day schools across North America. Opening Doors Through Middle Income Affordability

In 2018, San Diego Jewish Academy, a K-12 community school with an early childhood center, began a program to address affordability, a challenge faced by many Jewish day schools. Buoyed by the confidence that we offered high-quality education within a Jewish community that added meaning to our student’s lives, we saw both a desire and an opportunity to offer that experience to more families. We believed that our tuition ($24,000 - $28,000 per year) was a barrier for many middle income families, even with a significant amount of tuition assistance available. For a variety of reasons, some families never wanted to take tuition assistance; others still found the cost too prohibitive. Our goal was to remove cost as a barrier for what would remain a high quality Jewish day school education. More...

New federal funding opportunities available include:

• New Payroll Protection Program (PPP) loans for COVID relief, with $284 billion allocated.
  
• Federal funds for schools, including independent schools, a $2.75 billion fund to be allocated by states (although a school cannot receive this and PPP loan).
• Nonprofit security grants, funding doubled to $180 million.

The terms for new PPP loans have changed from the previous round: they are now available to organizations with 300 or fewer employees, with a maximum $2 million. Organizations must demonstrate a 25% reduction in gross revenue in at least one quarter of 2020, compared to the same quarter in 2019.
